> How TextSwitcher works

1. 01

   You finish a word

   TextSwitcher only inspects a word once you press space, a punctuation mark, or Return. While you are still typing letters nothing is touched, so a word you meant to type in Latin inside Russian text is never rewritten mid-typing.

2. 02

   The word is checked against both layouts

   The finished word is mapped key-by-key between QWERTY and ЙЦУКЕН. If the mapped variant is the plausible one, the original characters are replaced — “ghbdtn?” becomes “привет,” including the punctuation that ended the word.

3. 03

   The intended input source is activated

   After a correction the app switches macOS to the layout you actually meant to use, so the rest of the sentence continues in the right one instead of producing a second broken word.

4. 04

   You stay in control

   Corrections are ordinary text edits, so ⌘Z undoes them like any other typing. Per-app behaviour and Chrome support are toggles in Settings, and quitting from the menu-bar icon disables correction immediately.

macOS gives no other way to read the word you just typed and replace it in another app, so TextSwitcher needs Accessibility permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. That permission is what lets it see the current word and send the corrected characters back.

• Detection and correction run on your Mac — there is no server round-trip.
• Typed text, correction history, and layout state are never uploaded.
• Secure text fields (passwords) are skipped entirely.
• Update checks contact the release feed only and carry no typed text, app list, or layout information.
• Revoking Accessibility in System Settings stops all correction instantly.
