What is TextSwitcher?
TextSwitcher is a small macOS utility that automatically fixes words typed with the wrong keyboard layout. If you start typing in English QWERTY while your Mac is set to Russian ЙЦУКЕН (or the other way around), TextSwitcher detects the mistake and replaces the word with the correct one as soon as you press space, punctuation, or Enter.
Which keyboard layouts does TextSwitcher support?
The current release supports English QWERTY and Russian ЙЦУКЕН in both directions. Future updates may add more layouts based on user feedback.
Does TextSwitcher work in Google Chrome?
Yes, once the Chrome helper is enabled in Settings and Chrome has been restarted. Verified fields include Chrome inputs and textareas plus the ChatGPT, Lovable, and Asana comment editors. Password fields and canvas-based editors are never corrected, and other browsers are untested.
Do I need to press a shortcut or manually switch languages?
No. TextSwitcher is fully automatic. It watches what you type, recognizes when a word was produced by the wrong layout, and corrects it on the fly. You can keep typing naturally.
Is TextSwitcher free?
Yes, the app is free to download and use, with no ads, accounts, or paid tier. If you find it useful, voluntary contributions of any amount are possible on the Support page; they unlock nothing and simply fund signing, hosting, and new layouts.
What are the system requirements?
TextSwitcher requires macOS 14 or later. It is built as a native macOS app and is not available for Windows or Linux at this time.
Why does macOS ask for Accessibility permissions?
TextSwitcher needs Accessibility access so it can read the currently typed word and replace it with the corrected text. Without this permission, the app cannot interact with keyboard input in other applications. The permission is used only for layout correction and nothing else.
Does TextSwitcher send my typing anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally on your Mac. Your text is never uploaded to the cloud, stored on external servers, or used to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for more details.
How do I install TextSwitcher?
Download the DMG, open it, and drag TextSwitcher into your Applications folder. Launch the app, grant Accessibility permissions when prompted, and you are ready to go. A step-by-step guide is also available on the Getting Started page.
How do I uninstall TextSwitcher?
Quit TextSwitcher, drag it from Applications to the Trash, and remove it from System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility if it is still listed. No extra cleanup tools are required.
How do I update TextSwitcher?
Starting with version 1.2.0, TextSwitcher can check for updates automatically using Sparkle. Open the menu-bar menu and choose Check for Updates…, or enable automatic downloads in Settings → General. Version 1.2.0 must be installed manually; future signed releases can then install automatically. The current stable version is 1.2.0.
Can I try TextSwitcher before installing it?
You can use the online Keyboard Layout Translator to decode individual gibberish strings. For automatic correction while you type, you need to install the Mac app.
Where can I get help if something is not working?
Work through the diagnostic flows on the Troubleshooting page first — they cover missing corrections, stale Accessibility entries, and Chrome. If the issue persists, email support@antari.io with your macOS version, TextSwitcher version, the app and field involved, and the exact text you typed.
